Committed to Green
BEING GREEN IS NOTHING NEW FOR US
While “being green” seems to be a new concept for many companies, it’s been a part of Konell’s processes since the company was founded in 1984. We’re always been committed to salvaging, reusing and recycling as many materials as possible to keep construction debris out of Northwest landfills, saving clients costly disposal fees along the way.
We have our own fleet of concrete crushers, wood grinders, equipment mounted shears and breakers which help us breakdown materials so that we may reuse them on other projects or export to a recycling facility.
We are constantly replacing older equipment with newer more efficient models thus reducing our impact on the environment. We also use ultra low sulfur diesel in all trucks and equipment.
2006 GREEN DEMOLITION AWARD FOR TEKTRONIX CAMPUS
This 30 acre project included demolition of 5 major buildings including remediation of a tank farm that had been used to store a variety of chemicals. We also removed an array of roadways that wound through the original site including some elevated walk ways and a sky bridge. The existing structures were replaced with a full, regulations sized all weather synthetic soccer field, a regulations sized outdoor basketball court, a smaller basketball court, two volleyball courts, new built in berms and contoured landscaping grounds with walkways that connect the new facilities. We brought in our crusher to utilize all the asphalt and concrete as structural fill for the new facilities. In all we crushed and reused 30,000 tons of material on this site. We were able to achieve a material recovery rate that exceeded 99% in a 13 month period.
2005 GREEN DEMOLITION AWARD FOR INTERSTATE FRED MEYER
The two buildings that we demolished totaled over 121,000 square feet and covered more than four city blocks. The new building was only 105,000 square feet so the entire parking lot had to be redone as well. The existing structures consisted of both steel and wood beam construction which required us to carefully separate the materials as we demolished the buildings. With the variety of materials onsite including the concrete and asphalt the recycling goal was easily attainable.
